SALARY RANGE:  $3,408.00 - $4,368.00 per month plus benefits.

Salary ranges have six steps with approximately 5% between each step. New employees normally start at step one and after satisfactory performance during a 12 month probationary period, advance to the second step. Thereafter, annual step increases are based upon satisfactory performance.

ABOUT THE POSITION: To perform a variety of duties involved in maintaining the custody of inmates in the County jail; and to perform a variety of work in the monitoring of prisoners and in maintaining jail security. This recruitment will establish a hiring list to fill future vacancies within the Colusa County Jail.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade

- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Driver’s License

- Ability to work irregular hours, holidays, and weekends

- Current enrollment or successful completion of the Correctional Officer Core Course, preferred but not required

- Pursuant to Government Code Section 1031(a): Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.

- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

- Receive, book, and assign prisoners to cells; perform searches, fingerprinting and photographing of prisoners.

- Maintain custody of prisoners' private property.

- Monitor the condition and activities of prisoners.

- Supervise inmates at meal times, clothing exchange and recreation.

- Deliver medication to inmates as prescribed by physicians.

- Provide for inmates medical attention as required.

- Prepare prisoners for court appearances.

- Transport inmates to court and to other jail facilities.

- Maintain the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility.

- Monitor security cameras and door warning lights; inspect facilities regularly.

- Release prisoners on writs, court orders, bail bonds, payments of fines, or expirations of terms.

- Perform related duties as required.
