SALARY RANGE:  $3,582.00 - $4,589.00 per month plus benefits.

Salary ranges have six steps with approximately 5% between each step. New employees normally start at step one and after satisfactory performance during a 12 month probationary period, advance to the second step. Thereafter, annual step increases are based upon satisfactory performance.

ABOUT THE POSITION: To perform a variety of duties involved in maintaining the custody of inmates in the County jail; and to perform a variety of work in the monitoring of prisoners and in maintaining jail security. This recruitment will establish a hiring list to fill future vacancies within the Colusa County Jail.


- Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade

- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Driver’s License

- Ability to work irregular hours, holidays, and weekends

- Current enrollment or successful completion of the Correctional Officer Core Course, preferred but not required

- Pursuant to Government Code Section 1031(a): Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.

- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred


Receive, book, and assign prisoners to cells; perform searches, fingerprinting and photographing of prisoners.

Maintain custody of prisoners' private property.

Monitor the condition and activities of prisoners.

Supervise inmates at meal times, clothing exchange and recreation.

Deliver medication to inmates as prescribed by physicians.

Provide for inmates medical attention as required.

Prepare prisoners for court appearances.

Transport inmates to court and to other jail facilities.

Maintain the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility.

Monitor security cameras and door warning lights; inspect facilities regularly.

Release prisoners on writs, court orders, bail bonds, payments of fines, or expirations of terms.

Perform related duties as required.

Standby/Call-In pay, POST Incentive, Educational Incentive Pay, plus other incentives as applicable. This position is part of the Colusa County Deputy Sheriff’s Association (CCDSA).
