We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Biologist/Ecologist in our Sacramento, California office.
The Senior Biologist/Ecologist position will support the Ecological Resources Manager with all aspects of the department's objectives. This position also provides a high level of technical support in the fields of biology, terrestrial and/or aquatic ecology, and habitat restoration in support of the development and long-term stewardship of WES western region projects. The Senior Biologist/Ecologist may also guide and conduct investigations and generate the data necessary to convey the conservation and/or restoration potential of proposed projects to both internal and external parties. This person also conducts biological resource monitoring in support of WES’ conservation and restoration projects and report results to applicable natural resource agencies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Provide technical support and oversight/supervision to biological monitoring efforts for WES' western region with an emphasis on compliance with project documentation.
-Communicate ecological and biological data on WES' projects to natural resource agencies (i.e., US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, etc.) as part of project development and long-term stewardship.
-Develop and implement biological and ecological surveys and/or studies to document conditions of natural resources on proposed and existing projects in WES' western region.
-Review potential project sites with other team members to provide insight on biological and habitat conservation/restoration opportunities or constraints.
-Supervise outside consultants preparing specialized biological resource related documentation and/or monitoring services.
-Provide significant input to habitat restoration and conservation plans including development of performance standards, monitoring programs, and endowment for WES' projects.
-Develop permitting and mitigation strategies for mitigation banks and other WES projects with the Entitlement Manager.
-Prepare and/or review wetland delineations following applicable US Army Corps of Engineers guidance in support of restoration project permitting as well as monitoring for wetland mitigation projects.
