Auditor Appraisers perform a variety of duties related to the investigation, auditing and appraisal of personal property for tax assessment purposes. Incumbents must have detailed knowledge of professional auditing and accounting principles and techniques prior to appointment. Incumbents at Level I receive training in provisions of Revenue and Taxation Code and other laws and regulations governing the valuation of personal property for tax assessment purposes. The Associate Auditor-Appraiser regularly performs complex and specialized work requiring highly sophisticated auditing, accounting, and property appraisal techniques in the audit and analysis of financial records and the appraisal of personal property of major commercial, industrial, diversified and specialized entities, commercial aircraft, and leased equipment. The Associate Auditor-Appraiser does not regularly perform lead-work functions but may serve as a resource person regarding specialized audit-appraisal functions, may participate in special studies and may be assigned to Assessment Standards work such as performing internal audits and reviewing the work of others for purposes of quality control and identification of training needs. Under general supervision, Senior Accountants lead, plan, schedule, and oversee the work of staff performing a wide variety of accounting and fiscal duties while performing the same and/or more difficult duties as those being led.  Incumbents also ensure completion of tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures; communicate policies, procedures and job expectations; and provide training to staff.
